Description

MP Engineers is providing final design phase services for the rehabilitation of a bridge carrying Route 46 over Piaget Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey. The original bridge was constructed in 1940 as a single span structure. The project involves the replacement of the entire superstructure, including girders, bearing plates, parapet, sidewalk, curb, and bridge deck.

MPE is providing Project Management services, which involve the following tasks:

  • Contract Management
  • Progress Reporting and Invoices
  • Field Reconnaissance
  • Schedule Monitoring
  • Design Communication Report
  • Coordinating Bridge Construction Plans with the Roadway Plans
  • Designing and Completing the Structural Plans
  • Preparation of Structural Quantity Calculations
  • Providing Input for Durations of Structural Items for the Construction Bar Chart

Roadway work consists of guiderail improvements at the four corners of the bridge, design of new sidewalk linking Route 46 Westbound with the nearby middle school, pavement transitions to accommodate the new approach slabs, a new crossing across Piaget Avenue Ramp, and replacement of drainage grates to meet NJDEP criteria (if impacted).

Maintenance and Protection of Traffic will consist of four stages of construction maintaining one travel lane in each direction. The anticipated shutdown in lanes on Route 46 will require an alternative route to be developed and the shutdown of Piaget Avenue will require a local detour route to be developed.
