MP Engineers provided final design phase services for the rehabilitation of a bridge carrying Route 46 over Piaget Avenue in Clifton, New Jersey. The original bridge was constructed in 1940 as a single span structure. The project involved the replacement of the entire superstructure, including the girders, bearing plates, parapet, sidewalk, curb, and bridge deck. 
MP Engineers provided Design and Construction Support Services, which involved the following tasks: 
Highway and cross-street design profile/cross-section
ADA compliance of all cross street intersection locations
Drainage design of the main line
Lighting design of Route 46 and cross-street
Sidewalk realignment 
Coordinated the work with Verizon, PSE &G, Gas and Electric work.
MPT was coordinated with local prescient and local municipality offices
Superstructure replacement design including Bridge Deck/Diaphragms and Bearings

Roadway work consisted of guiderail improvements at the four corners of the bridge, design of new sidewalk linking Route 46 Westbound with the nearby middle school, pavement transitions to accommodate the new approach slabs, a new crossing across Piaget Avenue Ramp, and replacement of drainage grates to meet NJDEP criteria. 
Maintenance and Protection of Traffic consisted of four stages of construction maintaining one travel lane in each direction. The shutdown in lanes on Route 46 required an alternative route to be developed and the shutdown of Piaget Avenue required a local detour route to be developed.
