MP Engineers and Architects is a member of the Design-Build team, providing Design services for the Van Wyck Expressway (VWE) Capacity and Access Improvements to John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport project. This project involves the improvement of nine bridges spanning Van Wyck Expressway for future widening of the main expressway between Hoover Avenue and southern end of Federal Circle. MP Engineers and Architects is responsible for rehabilitative design measures for two of the nine bridges. The first bridge, Linden Boulevard over VWE, involves a total bridge replacement and lengthening. The second bridge, Foch Boulevard over VWE includes retrofitting and lengthening of the bridge. For both bridges, MP Engineers and Architects prepared contract documents in accordance with NYSDOT standards, manuals, specifications, and design codes. Linden Boulevard bridge is a two-span continuous steel structure with integral abutments, pier and retaining walls. Design and contract plans will be prepared as per AASHTO LRFD/NYSDOT design manuals and standard specifications. Design and contract plans will be prepared for Foch Boulevard bridge, which involved deck replacement and lengthening of existing continuous steel beams on both ends and rehabilitation of existing pier and abutments. MP Engineers and Architects prepared the preliminary design and construction man-hour estimates, reviewed QA/QC documents for accuracy and constructability for the two bridges.
